Need Your Music Fix Now? Here's Some Great Choices

The ratings below are opinion only and based on usability, ease of navigation, features and extras, that can be enjoyed by artists, labels and listeners alike. The ratings are subject to change, as more information about these awesome music communities is being gathered. This list will only include music sites, that offer free services to either the listeners, or artists and label, or both. The list may be frequently added to and updated, so any suggestions readers may have, are greatly encouraged and appreciated.

Bandcamp: Another wonderful site for musicians to promote themselves freely. If you are a listener or a musician, just a couple minutes into Bandcamps homepage tutorial video, will have you salivating. Listen On-demand, purchase tracks, stats for musicians are very intuitive, visualizations are the best on the web! 8.9/10

Lastfm is still one of the favorites for on-line radio and free to artists, labels and their listeners. Lastfm is very interactive, allowing the fans to help build the artists profiles, if the artists want it set up that way. Link your YouTube videos to your artist profile too! The most intuitive and detailed data and stats for listeners, in the entire world. Fans can create journals, profiles and 'About Me' sections and artists can link those journals to artists profiles. The site itself, takes some time to get used to and the artists/labels will find the music manager confusing and lacking in features, once you have it all down pat, it has plenty of rewards. Artists should thoroughly check out the royalty services 8.5/10

ReverbNation: Full Track Sample Everything! Unsigned, mainstream, obscure artists. Build queues and listen in exact order you put them! Artists may upload their material here completely for free and fans can listen for free! Fan the artists, love tracks, graphs and charts, join mailing lists for your favorite artists, or join their street teams! 8.5/10

The Hype Machine is a MP3 blog aggregator with slick tools to listen and read about music. It gathers songs posted on MP3 blogs and presents them in an easy to understand format. 8.1/10

Jamendo: Free and legal music downloads. 20,000 albums you can stream for free! Artists can belong for free! Jamendo is worldwide and available in many countries. Haven't found anything signed major or mainstream at Jamendo. Build profiles and use some coding(links). make friends and share music(the way LastFM used to) 8/10

Jango: Build several of your own custom radios at Jango and meet and shout with new friends. No BBcode, no html. Supported by advertising and artists pay to upload. Mostly Mainstream, but many independents as well. The radios are very sleek and intelligent radio recos 7.5/10

TrueAnthem: Not very large, but a great place to spend a few days, finding quality new artists. Artists can belong for free after administrative screening and once fans register, they can download all the music for free! Artists are supported at TrueAnthem, by sponsorships through advertisers, that are matched with their musical genre and style. 'Shaolin Temple Of BooM' are sponsored by Wonka Candies! Small site, but nice concept, so.... 7.5/10

Pandora: Pretty much the same as Jango. Mainstream only. Limited skipping and creators of the Music Genome Project(Which some are finding, is not as good as it should be). 7.4/10

SoundCloud lets you move music fast & easy. The platform takes the daily hassle out of receiving, sending & distributing music for artists, record labels & other music professionals. Jury's still out on this one, but it seems to be very populr with artists and industry professionals, looking for collaborations, web hosting or the next great artist. 7.2/10

MIXposure.com: is a Free Music Promotion & MP3 Downloads - Online Interactive Music Community! MIXposure has it's own DJ's and radio programming too and if the DJ's like the music, they can easily put it in rotation for airplay! This site is very popular for musicans, lyricists and producers, who wish to collaborate. Still one of my favorite places for networking in the music industry. 7/10

Our page: http://www2.mixposure.com/The_Cryb_-_EllsbethSToBWoolgather: You can sample three of our artists at MIXposure ;)

FIXT: An on-line muic label, designed for the independent music artists of the world. Weekly music deals, exclusives and single track or entire album purchases, are available at the FIXT Store. Also, near a dozen free downloads available here: Available FREE downloads. 6.5/10

Powerful V6 Coming Out Of London!

While we are not talking motors or valves here, we are definitelty talking ramped up power and it's made of solid metal.

Formed in 2003, Voodoo Six from London, U.K., are a revelation to classic, hard rock metaldom! V6 are the wake up and shake up call, for all die hard classic British metal fans. They are making a statement, that classic metal is here to stay and getting bigger and bolder all the time!

Maybe legendary band comparisons are cliche, but in V6's case, it may be warrented. So, you really dig classic, metal/rock style, guitar solos? V6 has plenty to offer you. Scorpions, Crew, Iron Maiden, Slayer? How does Quiet Riot sound to you? Voodoo Six are all that and more.

If you want some downright dirty, funk metal? Have a sample of these two tracks, One More Day or Shine On. Maybe a hefty dose of jumpin' up, fist pounding fare? Then try Walking On Nails, or maybe Crawl will do it for you. Then we have Mistaken, reigning in the classic metal ballad honors and destined to become a classic, classic.

V6 certainly have the complete package and they do a killer job sharing it with their fans. Check 'em out on My Space, or at LastFM

From their bio:

Woolgather is not your average every-day rock band from Texas. If ever a band with such a mesmerizing sound has taken all that they possibly could, from blood and sweat, time and money, love and loneliness, and poured it into each surreal note played and each emotion tugged, Woolgather is the one...

Zeroking fits the scene, like rivets to sheet metal!

Just wanted to post an excerpt from a live concert review, 3 years back.

Zeroking LIVE! 80's rock/metal/Just Plain Kick-ass Metal, from Huntington, W.V.

"...Zeroking fits the scene, like rivets to sheet metal!

Jalon and I arrived a bit early and found ourselves a seat with the guys from Further Lo band and the place was getting packed already. "So this is where all you, Ohio party animals hang out?!?!"

First up was Zeroking, kicking off with one of our favorite songs from them, Celebrity.

Lead vocalist Andy Haught, is very accomplished and proved he can dish out the same caliber of performance live, as on their CD. Wow! This band really understands pleasing the crowd!

Drugs Will Keep Us Together, was most likely the crowd favorite song from them. This song speaks volumes about the social interaction of some narcotics and speaks more about the musical abilities of these four, West Virginia wild men.

Shane Day is varacious and nimble on lead axe and drummer Chris Webb is a magnum force, sweat and guts drummer! When it comes to bass guitars, JP Boggs fits the perfect profile. For a band that sort of fell together, while performing in other projects, this foursome made a match from metal heaven and we can really dig them!

The crowd was still getting larger, as more patrons arrived and found themselves a place to stand. All seats were taken by this time and it was still early in the evening.

Next came the free Jagermeister shots-courtesy of Zeroking-delivered with a high powered squirt gun, direct from stage to mouth! The parties on now friends!!

"Jalon is right up in that shizzle, getting his shots in. I am trying to stay on focus and keep up the typing on this laptop, while wishing I could get my fun on too. Oh well, the bands deserve this and more, so it's well worth it in the end."

Zeroking kept the music coming for their set and gave the crowd one hell of great show!

Overall, Zeroking are a force to be reckoned with. A 5 star act with a promising future ahead of them....."

Minimalist Producer & Songwriter, David Alvarez and Shaolin Temple of BooM

The "millions of tracks played" club

Just got my copy of The Equinox from Shaolin Temple of BooM. This CD comes with a custom artwork on the inside cover, by David Alvarez! Not a print, but a hand drawn artwork! NO OTHER music artist has thought to customize each and every CD purchase in this manner. Of course, my copy is autographed by David. I am betting this concept release, will be even more valuable, as time goes on.

COMING SOON! Album title: Duel.
Release date: May 25, 2010

ST((o))B, as they are affectionately called by their fans, are stepping up their game plan and not only producing some of the very best indepedent music out today, but are also producing their own music videos and are currently working on a Hollywood movie soundtrack and a new television commercial.

Refusing to conform to the major labels ideals, of what music should sound like, David Alvarez has studied every aspect of the music business, to learn what it takes to accomplish success for the independent and deserving musicans. David is the producer, song writer, vocalist, pianist, guitarist, promoter and publicist, for Shaolin Temple of BooM, A progressive rock/hard rock band from Los Angeles, California. He also owns their record label, Cherry Atom Pie Productions. This fellow covers it all, with an instantly recognizable passion for music, placing careful attention on artistic form and expression, with professionalism and covering all the little details.

David and the guys tell us, "We feel the digital age driving the music machine and it isn't always a smooth ride for many music artists. We wanted our music to reach our fans, the way we always dreamed it; directly from us, to them". ST((o))B are always fighting to create a better music experience for the fans. David knows, you have to cover all the bases, on every field of play and strives to cover the web, with as much about their music, as is humanly possible for one band.

Here are just a few links to ST((o))B's massive web coverage, to get you started.

Videos abound: I wouldn't want to post all the videos, since there are a bunch of them, but here is the latest one, from David and the gang, at Cherry Atom Pie Productions:
